Alex Ramsay
June 21, 2002
Through friendship, service, and an enduring love of Scotland, Alex brought people together and made every community he served feel more like family.

Alex Ramsay was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, firefighter, volunteer, and proud Scotsman whose warmth and generosity made him deeply loved within every community he called home.
Born in Clydebank, Scotland, Alex later came to Canada and settled in Pinawa, Manitoba. There, he and his wife, Sandra, built a life surrounded by friends and neighbours who became his family away from home. Alex treasured those friendships and was always ready to lend a hand, share his knowledge, or enjoy a good laugh.
Although Canada became his home, Alex remained closely connected to his Scottish roots. He took great joy in sharing Scotland’s traditions and culture with others, and Folklorama became one of his greatest passions.
For many years, Alex volunteered with the Pavilion of Scotland and served as a member of the Folk Arts Council of Winnipeg. He eagerly anticipated the festival each August, when he could celebrate his own heritage while learning from the many cultures represented throughout Folklorama. Through this work, he formed lasting friendships with fellow Pavilion volunteers, Council members, and participants from across the festival.
Alex was equally devoted to the community of Pinawa. For nearly 35 years, he served as an active member of the Pinawa Volunteer Fire Department. His fellow firefighters became another extended family, and Alex generously shared the knowledge and experience he had gained through decades of service with other firefighters and community groups.
Above all, Alex was a loving husband to Sandra, a devoted father to Kirsten and Frazer, and a proud grandfather to Angelique and Gavin.
Alex passed away at home on June 21, 2002, with Sandra by his side.
