Barbara Criggie (nee Jones)
June 3, 1937 - August 4, 2023
Through family devotion, decades of volunteer service, and laughter that could brighten any room, Barb gave generously to her community and made every gathering happier simply by being there.

Barbara “Barb” Criggie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, community volunteer, and beloved friend whose infectious laughter brought joy to every gathering.
Born in Austin, Manitoba, Barb spent much of her childhood there before moving with her family to Winnipeg. It was in Winnipeg that she met Robert “Bob” Criggie, the man with whom she would share 65 years of marriage.
Barb and Bob married in 1954 and soon began raising their family. Over the years, they lived in several communities throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan, forming friendships that remained important to them for the rest of their lives.
Family was always at the centre of Barb’s world. She was immensely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and treasured every opportunity to gather, celebrate, and share laughter with them.
Barb devoted countless hours to community service. She was deeply involved with the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary and Ladies’ Command, where she held numerous executive positions. Her longstanding leadership reflected her reliability, organizational ability, and commitment to supporting veterans and their families.
She also contributed through the International War Veterans Alliance and Joint Hospital Committee, continuing a family tradition of service that she shared with Bob.
For 35 years, Barb volunteered with Folklorama’s Pavilion of Scotland. Her dedication made her a familiar and cherished member of the Pavilion family, helping sustain the hospitality, teamwork, and friendship at the heart of the annual celebration.
Barb enjoyed knitting, attending Winnipeg Goldeyes games, and playing bingo. Her regular bingo outings were as much about visiting and laughing with friends as they were about the game itself.
Whatever Barb was doing—helping at a luncheon, volunteering at an event, or attending a family celebration—she brought fun with her. Friends and relatives especially remembered her unmistakable, infectious laugh and her ability to make everyone around her smile.
Barb passed away peacefully on August 4, 2023, at the age of 86.
