Bertha Emily Leeder

February 10, 1921–March 28, 2014

Bertha Emily Leeder was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, philanthropist, and loyal supporter of Winnipeg’s Scottish community.

For 30 years, Bertha served others through her work as a compassionate nurse. Her career reflected the kindness, patience, and concern for others that remained central throughout her life.

Bertha shared 59 loving years of marriage with her husband, Edmund. Together, they raised five children—Beth, Edmund, John, Janice, and Cathy—and built a large, closely connected family.

She took tremendous pride in her 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Her home and heart remained open to a wide circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family.

Bertha was deeply committed to charitable and community service. Proud of her Scottish heritage, she was a loyal member of the Sons of Scotland and is remembered among the volunteers of the Pavilion of Scotland.

Her faith was also an important part of her life, providing strength, fellowship, and a foundation for her generous service to others.

Bertha passed away peacefully on March 28, 2014, at the age of 93, surrounded by her family.
