Conrad “Con” Butler

June 28, 1937 - January 17, 2015

Through perseverance, public service, friendship, and a lifelong love of family, Con showed others that even through life’s challenges, there is always reason to keep smiling.

Conrad “Con” Butler was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, social worker, volunteer, and cherished friend whose life was marked by determination, laughter, and an enduring concern for others.

Born in Hanley, Saskatchewan, Con left home at the age of 18 to attend university in Saskatoon, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later moved to Winnipeg and completed a Master of Social Work at the University of Manitoba.

Following graduation, Con returned to Saskatoon and began his career with the Province of Saskatchewan. It was there that he met Enid Clayton, the woman who would become his lifelong companion. They married in April 1965 and moved to Winnipeg the following year, where Con continued his career in public service with the Province of Manitoba.

Con’s education and professional life reflected his interest in people and his desire to contribute meaningfully to the community. He brought patience, understanding, and a strong sense of responsibility to both his work and his volunteer commitments, including his connection with the Pavilion of Scotland.

After retirement, Con and Enid continued to embrace life through travel and shared adventures with family and friends. Their nearly 50 years of marriage were filled with companionship, love, and laughter.

Above all, Con treasured his family. He was a loving father to Susan and Jennifer and a proud grandfather to Amber, Annabelle, Aidan, and Cian. He remained closely connected to his sisters, Marg and Bea, his extended family, and the countless friends he made throughout his life.

Con faced life’s obstacles with remarkable strength and an unfailing ability to keep smiling. Before his passing, he reassured his family that he was ready and deeply grateful for the full and rewarding life he had enjoyed.

Con passed away peacefully at home on January 17, 2015, surrounded by his family.
