Dorothy Dykens
September 3, 1925 - May 17, 2015
Through military service, scientific achievement, volunteerism, and a quiet appreciation for the natural world, Dorothy lived a life of independence, curiosity, and meaningful contribution.

Dorothy Dykens was a Canadian Army veteran, accomplished food chemist, nature lover, and valued member of the Pavilion of Scotland community.
Raised in Nova Scotia, Dorothy joined the Canadian Army immediately after completing school. Her service allowed her to save toward the university education she hoped to pursue.
Dorothy later earned a degree in food chemistry and built a successful professional career in a field where relatively few women worked during her generation. She was employed as a food chemist with Quaker Oats in Alberta before moving to Manitoba, where she continued her career with Burns.
Following retirement, Dorothy found great enjoyment in observing the wildlife around her home. Her appreciation for animals and nature remained an important part of her life, and her family invited memorial donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
Dorothy was also a member of the Pavilion of Scotland family, sharing in the volunteer service and cultural fellowship that brought Winnipeg’s Scottish community together.
Dorothy passed away at her Winnipeg residence on May 17, 2015, at the age of 89. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Carol Stewart; her niece, Cynthia Cooke; and those who knew her through her work, community involvement, and friendships.
