Islay Bushby

Through public service, fellowship, and a lifelong devotion to her community and Scottish heritage, Islay became a cherished part of the Pavilion of Scotland family.

Islay Bushby was a dedicated public servant, loyal friend, and proud member of Winnipeg’s Scottish community.
Born in East Kildonan, Islay spent her entire life in the community she called home. Over the years, she built lasting friendships and remained closely connected to her family, including relatives throughout the United Kingdom and Australia.
Islay worked for many years with the Province of Manitoba, contributing a significant part of her life to public service.
Proud of her Scottish heritage, she was an active member of Melrose Camp No. 126 of the Sons of Scotland, the Winnipeg Robert Burns Club, and Folklorama’s Pavilion of Scotland. Through these organizations, she shared in the fellowship, traditions, and cultural celebrations that helped keep Scotland’s spirit alive in Winnipeg.
Islay was also a member of Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Branch No. 81 and Bleak House Seniors Centre, where she enjoyed friendship and a strong sense of community.
She passed away at the Health Sciences Centre on June 26, 2013. Islay is lovingly remembered by her nephew, Roy McLeod; her relatives abroad; and her close friends, Brian McNulty, Denie Michaud, and Euan Garrido.
