Isobel Fox Herron

November 17, 1943 - October 23, 2020

Through 42 years of Pavilion service and 45 years with the Sons of Scotland, Isobel quietly gave her time, friendship, and Scottish spirit to a community that loved her dearly

Isobel Fox Heron was a devoted mother, grandmother, friend, and longtime volunteer whose generous service became an important part of the Pavilion of Scotland community.

Born in Cowdenbeath, Fife, Scotland, in November 1943, Isobel immigrated to Winnipeg in 1968. Although Canada became her home, she remained deeply connected to her Scottish roots and found friendship, fellowship, and purpose within Winnipeg’s Scottish community.

Isobel began volunteering at Folklorama’s Pavilion of Scotland in 1978. Over more than four decades, she became an integral member of the Pavilion family, contributing especially to the kitchen, where her reliability, experience, and willingness to help supported countless volunteers and visitors.

She also assisted at the Sons of Scotland booth and was a proud member of the organization for 45 years. Through that long association, Isobel helped promote Scottish culture, strengthen community ties, and welcome generations of people into the celebration of their shared heritage.

Isobel was predeceased by her husband, Jim Heron, in 2009. She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Darren and Alan Fox; her grandchildren, Autumn, Logan, and Brandon; her sisters in Scotland and South Africa; and the many friends she made through the Pavilion and the Sons of Scotland.

Diagnosed with advanced cancer only six weeks before her death, Isobel passed away on October 23, 2020. In keeping with her wishes, there was no formal obituary or service.
