Ivy Marcella Fyfe

November 2, 2008

Through wartime service, cultural celebration, community involvement, and an irrepressible enthusiasm for life, Ivy brought friendship, laughter, and encouragement wherever she went.

Ivy Marcella Fyfe lived a joyful and active life devoted to family, country, community, and friendship.

Born in Balmoral, Manitoba, Ivy spent her formative years in Onanole. During the Second World War, she proudly served her country with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in Vancouver. After the war, she married Ian Fyfe in 1948, and together they established deep roots in Winnipeg’s St. Vital community.

While raising their children, Lynne, Sharon, Doug, and Ralph, Ivy gave generously of her time to many organizations. She was active with Regent’s Park United Church, now St. Mary’s Road United Church, the Glenwood Community Club, and the St. Boniface Hospital Gift Shop.

Ivy also celebrated her love of culture and fellowship through Scottish country dancing, square dancing, and many years of involvement with Folklorama’s Pavilion of Scotland.

Figure skating held a particularly special place in Ivy’s heart. She established the first figure-skating program at Glenwood and travelled across Canada to attend international skating competitions. Her enthusiasm made her the family’s—and perhaps the community’s—ultimate figure-skating fan.

Ivy treasured her children, grandchildren, extended family, and many close friends, whose companionship brought laughter and support throughout her life. She was also a lifelong lover of cats, and her beloved Quincy remained a source of comfort and faithful companionship until the end.

Ivy passed away peacefully on November 2, 2008, at St. Boniface Hospital.
