Larry Rea
July 4, 1956 - June 14, 2024
Through devoted leadership, cultural service, and an enduring love for his family, Larry helped the Pavilion of Scotland and the wider Folklorama community welcome the world with pride and friendship.

Lawrence Michael “Larry” Rea was a devoted husband, loving father, proud Pavilion volunteer, and distinguished Folklorama leader whose service helped strengthen Winnipeg’s multicultural community.
Larry shared his life with his beloved wife, Kathryn “Kathy” Rea, and together they raised their children, Megan and Daniel. Family was central to both Larry and Kathy, and their home was shaped by love, loyalty, humour, and deep pride in their children.
The sudden loss of Kathy in 2016 brought profound sorrow, but Larry continued to carry her memory with him. Their shared devotion to Megan and Daniel remained one of the most important parts of his life.
Larry became deeply involved with Folklorama’s Pavilion of Scotland, contributing his time, leadership, and enthusiasm to the annual celebration of Scottish culture. His commitment earned him the honour of serving as Folklorama’s Ambassador General in 1995.
As Ambassador General, Larry represented not only the Pavilion of Scotland but the entire Folklorama family. He helped welcome visitors, promote cultural understanding, and demonstrate the friendship and hospitality that have made the festival an important part of Winnipeg life.
Larry’s leadership later extended to the highest levels of the organization. From 1999 to 2000, he served as President of Folklorama, helping guide one of the world’s largest and longest-running multicultural festivals.
Through these roles, Larry became part of the history of both the Pavilion of Scotland and Folklorama itself. His service reflected a belief that cultural pride and multicultural friendship could exist side by side, enriching the community for everyone.
Larry is lovingly remembered by his children, Megan and Daniel; his mother, Agnes; his sisters, Kathy and Janice; his brothers-in-law, Robert, Allan, and Thom; their families; and the many friends and volunteers who knew him through the Pavilion and Folklorama.
Larry passed away unexpectedly on June 14, 2024, at the age of 67.
