Norma Jean Murray

November 20, 1921 - February 9, 2017

Through family, community service, international adventure, and many years of quiet dedication to the Pavilion of Scotland, Norma lived a life rich in generosity and purpose.

Norma Jean Murray was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, traveller, and generous community volunteer who lived a full and interesting life.

After marrying her husband, Dave, Norma moved with him to Northern Manitoba. They later returned to Winnipeg, settled in St. Vital, and raised their children, Gary and Susan.

Norma worked at various times for the T. Eaton Company while remaining deeply devoted to the care and happiness of her family.

After their children had grown, Norma accompanied Dave to Tanzania, where he worked with the Canadian International Development Agency on an agricultural development project. Their time overseas became one of the many memorable chapters in a life shaped by family, service, and new experiences.

Norma gave generously of her time to numerous organizations, including the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, the United Way, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and Regent Park United Church.

She also volunteered for many years with Folklorama’s Pavilion of Scotland, where she was particularly remembered for her service in the gift shop. Through her warm welcome and dependable assistance, she helped visitors discover Scottish keepsakes while contributing to the friendship and hospitality at the heart of the Pavilion.

Above all, Norma treasured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She remained a loving and steady presence within her family throughout her long life.

Norma passed away peacefully at the Maples Care Centre on February 9, 2017, with her family by her side.
