Walter George McLarty
June 4, 2025
Through his devotion to family, gentle humour, and stories shared with warmth, Walter left those around him with memories filled with affection and laughter.

Walter George McLarty was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose gentle humour and gift for storytelling endeared him to everyone around him.
Walter shared his life with his beloved wife, Louise, and together they raised their children, Ian and Tara. Family remained at the centre of his life, and he took great pride in his grandchildren, Jessica, Connor, Emily, Bethany, Helen, and Grace.
He was also closely connected to a large extended family through Louise’s parents, Milo and Kay Sheppard, and her brothers, Richard and Wesley. Those family ties brought Walter into the friendship and fellowship of Winnipeg’s Scottish community.
Walter was remembered by those who cared for him as a kind and gracious man. During his time in hospital, staff frequently commented on his sweetness, his sense of humour, and the stories he enjoyed sharing.
Even during difficult days, Walter retained his ability to joke with those around him. His warmth made a lasting impression on the nurses, doctors, and support staff who came to know him.
Walter was predeceased by Louise, his parents George and Evelyn McLarty, his parents-in-law Milo and Kay Sheppard, and his brother-in-law Moir Thompson.
He is lovingly remembered by his children and grandchildren; his sister, Carol; his brothers-in-law, Richard and Wesley; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Walter passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks General Hospital on June 4, 2025, at the age of 84, with his family by his side.
