William (Willie) Gilkison
August 27, 1931 - March 23, 2009
Through family, fellowship, and an enduring connection to the land of his birth, Willie helped pass the pride and traditions of Scotland to the generations who followed him.

William “Willie” Gilkison was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud Scotsman whose life connected his family’s Scottish roots with their new home in Canada.
Born in Airdrie, Scotland, Willie spent his formative years surrounded by the culture and traditions of his homeland. In 1957, he immigrated to Canada and eventually settled in Winnipeg, where he built a new life while maintaining a strong connection to his Scottish heritage.
Willie shared his life with his beloved wife, Audrey. Together, they raised their daughter, Anne, and took great pride in watching their family grow. He was a loving grandfather to Robyn, Robert, and Matthew Nyhof, whose lives brought him great happiness.
Willie became part of Winnipeg’s Scottish community and is remembered among the volunteers of Folklorama’s Pavilion of Scotland. His family also shared in the Pavilion’s early history, helping carry forward the traditions, fellowship, and cultural pride that meant so much to him.
Willie was predeceased by Audrey and his sister, Margaret. He passed away on March 23, 2009, at the age of 77.
